We are proud to announce that Mount Hawke’s amazing new street section – designed and built by Four One Four – has been selected as the official venue for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics UK street skateboarding qualifying competition.
This design is one of our favourites but it was particularly difficult to execute as the building has numerous pillars from top to bottom and the design brief was to have the skatepark flowing in between them. The new layout has all the staple features of a great street course though with Square and Round handrails, 2 Flat Bank Hips, a Euro Gap, a Bank to Ledge, Hubbas and Planters, a Delta driveway and flowing Quarters pipes all the way around on various levels to open up even more lines!
The feedback we’ve had about the new layout that we built at Mount Hawke back in May 2016 has been nothing but positive so we are honoured to have our work singled out for such an event.
The qualifiers will take place on the 14th-15th April 2018 and will also double up with the celebrations of the skate park’s 30th anniversary.
The comp is expected to be broadcast live on BBC TV.
Ciaran Ryder, from Mount Hawke, said: “The first skateboard in the UK was sold in Cornwall – it really did start here so it would make sense for us to host the qualifying for the Olympics.”
So get planning that road trip!!
